"Your grandchildren will likely find it incredible - or even sinful - that you burned up a gallon of gasoline to fetch a pack of cigarettes!"
~Paul MacCready, Jr.

Q: Does the FuelBox produce biodiesel?
A: No, the Fuelbox produces straight vegetable oil fuel (VO-100) by filtering and centrifuging your waste vegetable oil to remove water and particulates. There is no chemical process involved to produce the fuel.

Q: Is VO-100 the same as biodiesel?
A: No, biodiesel is chemically engineered fuel produced through a process called transesterification that requires vegetable oil, catalyst chemicals and methanol. VO-100 is simply used cooking oil that has been mechanically filtered and cleaned to make it a safe, environmentally friendly alternative to diesel fuel.

Q: Can I run VO-100 in the same tank as I put my diesel fuel?
A: No, VO-100 systems have a second tank for VO-100 that is warmed by heat from the car's engine to allow the VO-100 to flow properly in all climates and temperatures.

Q: Is the FuelBox easy to maintain and operate?
A: Yes. There is one filter to change approximately every 200-250 gallons produced, and the centrifuge has to be cleaned for about every 350-400 gallons produced.

Q: Can I make VO-100 all year round in cold climates?
A: Yes, the fuel box has its own heater that allows it to run year round in any climate. During the winter, it costs about $15-$20/month in electricity to keep the heater running all the time.

Q: Can I run my vehicle on VO-100 in the winter?
A: Yes, VO-100 systems are heated by excess engine heat and insulated to allow them run in cold weather. VO-100 systems have been run successfully in temps down to -30F. All of the components for VO systems come directly from the cold weather diesel trucking industry and have been tested for years and litterally billions of miles in the coldest and harshest conditions.

Q: Can I still use regular diesel if I run out of VO-100?
A: Yes, VO-100 systems have 2 tanks and the diesel fuel circuit stays intact. You can even fill your VO-100 tank with regular diesel or biodiesel if you run out of VO-100.

Q: Is VO-100 bad for my car's engine?
A: No! In fact, Studies show that vegetable oil has superior lubrication and detergent values over conventional diesel fuel. Examination of engines running with the VO-100 systems have shown dramatic reductions of carbon deposits compared to engines running only on diesel.

Q: Do I need to make any modifications to the engine?
A: No! Absolutely no changes to the engine itself happen when installing a VO system. All of the VO system components feed into the existing fuel system without any engine modifications.

Q: Is VO-100 good for the environment?
A: Yes! Unlike diesel fuel which contains sulfur, a major carcinogen when burned in fuels, VO-100 has none. Vegetable oil does not produce excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere making it a carbon neutral fuel. As a sulfur free biofuel, emissions are less harmful to the environment and less toxic to people and animals, and it helps reduce air pollutants in your community.

Q: Are VO-100 vehicles for everybody?
A: VO-100 vehicles are best suited for people with long daily commutes or who are driving their cars continuously all day long, or on long trips. They are fantastic for delivery vehicles and heavy equipment that runs all day, or for business vehicles that are on the road a lot. No matter what your motivation, be it saving money on fuel, being steward of your community, helping the environment or some combination thereof, the use of biofuels in diesels is a great opportunity for all types of businesses and communities. New VO-100 systems are extremely reliable with years of research and testing compiled. The FuelBox produces the highest quality fuel you can make, far better than the VO-100 you can buy from biodiesel coops, which maximizes the realiabilty and fuel filter life of your system.

Q: Do I have to worry about switching back and forth between diesel and VO-100?
A: No, modern VO-100 systems are fully automated and take the guesswork out of using VO-100. When your vehicle reaches the proper temperature the system will switch automatically to VO-100, and when you turn your car off the system will automatically purge the fuel system and refill it with diesel.

Q: Will using VO-100 void my vehicle warranty?
A: Typically, only the fuel system components of your vehicle will not be covered under your existing warranty. Some car dealers are more alternative fuel friendly than others, but usually any warranty issues outside of your fuel system will not be adversely affected by installation of a VO-100 kit.

Q: Is running VO-100 in my car legal?
A: Waste vegetable oil is not currently an EPA standardized fuel. But Greenspark Fuel Systems is working on both the Federal and State levels to get VO-100 fuels included in the definition of biofuels produced from biomass so that there are no legal impediments to running VO-100 in your diesel vehicle. The EPA and the IRS are not interested in going after the individual VO-100 user, and may in the near future allow the same rebates and tax incentives for VO-100 that are currently available for biodiesel, ethanol and other alternative biofuels. Greenspark Fuel Systems is heavily involved in lobbying for VO-100 to become a legitimate alternative fuel in the eyes of Federal and State regulatory agencies.
